The Society for Neuroscience has earned a 2018 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for BrainFacts.org, a dynamic website that aims to share the wonders of neuroscience with a global public, dispel “neuromyths,” and stimulate interest in neuroscience among young adults.
ASAE honored the initiative in which Society for Neuroscience partnered with The Kavli Foundation, The Gatbsy Charitable Trust, The Wellcome Trust, The Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research, The Brain Initiative Alliance to showcase how the brain is the most complex structure in the known universe. BrainFacts.org presents this impressive organ in a manner that is exciting, innovative, and user-friendly.
An editorial board of leading neuroscientists from around the world oversees the BrainFacts.org content to ensure the site is an authoritative information source for the public. In the fall of 2017, BrainFacts.org was re-launched with a comprehensive, audience-centric website that fully supports user learning preferences and content that is focused anew on storytelling. The redesigned website enhances learning experiences through videos, animations, webinars, live chats, illustrations, and infographics, in addition to written articles, blog posts, and podcasts, all of which can be shared. A major highlight of the re-launch is an interactive, scientifically accurate 3D brain model that allows users to explore different regions of the brain.
Since inception, BrainFacts.org has been viewed in more than 200 countries and territories and accumulated more than 16.5 million page views. Indicators of the site’s reach have grown consistently each year, providing BrainFacts.org with a strong global statement. BrainFacts.org is capitalizing on its momentum by refining and implementing strategies to engage harder‐to‐reach international audiences so that it is accessible from any computer or device with access to the internet.
